It started out as fun and games. Connie Baldwin would be playing pool in her Washington home, when her Chihuahua pup, Amadeus, would come sniff around, wanting to be held. "One day, I just put him up on the table and said, 'Go get the ball,' " "He couldn't really bite them, but when I said 'Go get the ball' again, he started knocking them around." Every time the eager pooch would knock one into the pocket, Baldwin would praise him — and that's how the world's smallest pool player got his st...

Has fame and success gotten to Katy Perry's head? No, but it has definitely affected her cat, Kitty Purry."Oh, Kitty Purry ... Yeah, she is quite the diva," Perry . "She's the title owner of my company. She's the CEO, really, and she makes that known all the time." Kitty Purry might have a point. The Maine coon was, after all, nominated for a Teen Choice award last year for best celebrity pet (she lost to Bo Obama). It's a long way from the street, which is where Perry first found and...

Believe it or not, but one woman in Georgia is claiming that her cat has defied science. She says that her moggie has given birth to a PUPPY, in a labour that lasted two days. While they are not fighting like cats and dogs just yet, she says the pup's tails and ears take after its mother - while the rest of the body is fully canine. Scientists have not ruled out radiation as the reason, but say that any cross species encounter was an unlikely cause. (source)...

Think of the epic friendships of all time, Butch and Sundance, Thelma and Louise, Turner and Hooch and now add, Charlie and Pacho. Pacho is a black shepherd mix dog and Charlie is one of the world’s largest rodents, the capybara of the Peruvian Amazon, which I encountered on Hear the World’s Global Explorer’s expedition. They’re both rescues. Charlie was saved from a family who killed his mother for meat and then tried to keep the rodent as a pet until he got much too big for their t...

Elaine Morgan is a tenacious proponent of the aquatic ape hypothesis: the idea that humans evolved from primate ancestors who dwelt in watery habitats. Hear her spirited defense of the idea — and her theory on why mainstream science doesn’t take it seriously. Elaine Morgan is an octogenarian scientist, armed with an arsenal of television writing credits and feminist instincts, on a mission to prove humans evolved in water. (source)...

  • Glow-In-Dark Dogs

No, that is not a typo. Scientists in South Korea claim they have used cloning to produce four dogs which can glow red in the dark. While it sounds like a wacky student prank, it actually has major implications for medical science. The four cloned beagles look perfectly normal in daylight, but several bodyparts glow red in the dark, including the nails, skin, eyes and abdomen. The entire body glows under ultraviolet light. The effect comes from a gene which produces a protein which...
